Walter C. "Wally" Moult died peacefully after a short illness in Lions Gate 

Hospital on 8 January 2015 in North Vancouver BC at the age of 91. 

Wally is survived by children Sheila (Anne) and Michael (Kathy), nephew 

Geoff and his much loved grandsons Ian and Eric. His beloved wife Peggy 

died in 2009, and his sister Win in 2014. 

Wally was born on September 25, 1923 in Bolsover, UK. He grew up in a coal 

mining family, but pursued a different path, winning scholarships to grammar 

school and to Cambridge. World War II saw him joining the Royal Air Force 

and coming to Canada for training, where he met Peggy in Vancouver. After 

a courtship by letter, she joined him in England in 1946 where they married and 

he completed his studies at Cambridge University. Following the birth of their 

daughter Sheila in 1949, they decided to emigrate to Canada, welcoming the birth of their son Michael and 

settling eventually in West  Vancouver in a home they built on Duchess Avenue. 

Wally embarked on a long career in education as a high school history teacher and finished his career as 

a Principal at Magee and Gladstone. 

Wally and Peggy were adventurous spirits who actively pursued opportunities to travel and learn, 

embarking on 18 months in Europe studying when their children were 8 and 4, and living in 

Germany for two years when Wally took a secondment to the Canadian Forces school system. 

They spent most of their summers on Bowen Island. Following Wally's retirement they travelled 

more, including extended time in Mexico. It was during his retirement that Wally developed his 

passion for lawn bowling, a sport he pursued actively well into his 80's as a life member of the 

West Vancouver Lawn Bowling Club. 

Wally is remembered by the many people he worked with, taught or played with for his kind heart 

and keen interest in the events of the day. 

A reception in his honour will be held at the West Vancouver Lawn Bowling Club, 650 20th Street, 

West Vancouver, BC, on Sunday February 1, 2-4 pm. Friends are welcome to attend. The family 

wishes to acknowledge the excellent care Wally received at the Lions Gate Hospital, orthopedics 

and 6th floor W.
