HAWES, Barry John
April 4, 1936 – May 22, 2014
With joy and sorrow we announce Barry's passing into the presence of his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

He is dearly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Sharon (nee Bennett); daughters, Cindie (Sam) Chaise, Stephanie (Mike) Cunningham; beloved granddaughters, Clare, Kate and Brynn.
Raised in Vancouver, Barry attended Carleton Elementary School, Gladstone School and graduated from Wheaton College, Illinois. Returning to Vancouver, he married Sharon, beginning a beautiful journey together.

Barry later took a leadership role in the Bennett group of companies in the U.S. and Canada, all the while maintaining a special home in the village of Naramata. Barry loved to laugh, encourage others and delighted in music, especially the old Gospel hymns.
He found great joy in coming alongside others, particularly those in Christian leadership and higher education, and will be remembered for his vision and significant volunteer contributions to many organizations and boards including Regent College, the Artizo Institute, the Gladstone Foundation and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.
In his later years, Barry faced many medical difficulties with grace and dignity and will be remembered as a man of faith and wisdom who touched many lives with his friendship, gentleness, generosity and spiritual mentorship. His family will remember the great depth of his love.
