Born in Nelson, BC in 1937, passed away peacefully at the age of 76, January 30, 2014.
Survived by his loving wife, Norma and 3 children- Susan, Karen (Gavin) and Ross
(Holly), 8 Grandchildren- Erica (Erich), Patrick, Dane , Andrea, Adair, Melanie, Emily,
and Sabrina. Fred was pre-deceased by brothers Bob and Doug. Fred began his drafting
apprenticeship with Dominion Bridge after high-school and went on to join his best -
friend and brother, Bob at Can Car- A Division of Hawker Siddeley Canada. Together ,
they were an important part of the development team for Chip-N-Saw, North America's
first single pass sawmill system in the 1960's. In 1984, they went on to start their own company, Optimil
Machinery – now a leader in the design and manufacture of sawmill machinery. Fred enjoyed boating/fishing,
tinkering in his workshops, travelling the world with Norma and being a big part of all of his grandchildren's
lives. He loved his annual trips to New Zealand to be part of Karen's family with Dane, Andrea & Adair.
Memorial Service to be held 2pm Sat Feb 8 at Como Lake United Church- 535 Marmont Street, Coquitlam, BC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the B.C. Cancer Agency.
