FRED MCKAVE
December 3, 1935-October 27, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce
the passing of Fred on October 27, 2019. Fred is survived and will be lovingly
remembered by his wife of 61 years, Grace, and his four children, Marianne
(Merlin), Chris (Lita), Ron (Marina) and Paul (Francesca), and his six
grandchildren, Frederick, Elpiniki, Roberto, Anthony, Samuel and Jacob, and by
his sister Molly (Sam) and many nieces and nephews. Fred was born in Mikado,
Sask. His family moved to Vancouver when he was seven years old. He graduated
from Gladstone High School and went on to get his degree as a Chartered
Accountant. He worked for Revenue Canada for 12 years and then went into Public
Practice. Fred was a gentle, devoted and caring man who loved his family above
all things. He was an avid reader and had a remarkable memory for history. He
was gifted with a sharp sense of humor. He was also a fantastic cook. Fred and
Grace lived in south Burnaby for more than 30 years where they raised their
family. Fred was a member and past president of the South Burnaby Men's Club, a
local youth sports organization, where he coached little league baseball for 15
years. He had a passion for rugby, playing from his high school years until his
forties, mostly for the ex-Brits and Red Lions. After retiring in 1993, Fred
and Grace moved to Harrison Hot Springs, a place they both loved, and enjoyed
golfing with their many wonderful friends at the Harrison Golf Club. A Mass of
Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 5 at 11 a.m. at St.
Anthony's Parish, 7237 Morrow Road, Agassiz, B.C. Special thanks to Dr. Milne,
and the staff of the Cascades Hospice in Chilliwack. In lieu of flowers, please
make a donation to the charity of your choice.
